I'll post a few pics, I've had the car almost 2 years at this point. This is the mod list I had posted on AA.

Day after I brought it home:
My POS (98 SOHC neon) 100_0024

Some parts:

My POS (98 SOHC neon) SOHCheader001

My POS (98 SOHC neon) 100_00491

A few weeks later:

My POS (98 SOHC neon) 100_0071

My POS (98 SOHC neon) 100_0101

At this point it was getting 45 MPG on long trips, and 37-39 daily. Ran consistant 15.7's at the track. Later on in June I gutted the rear seats out and ran a 15.39@88.

Then, it happened.

My POS (98 SOHC neon) 100_0653

I got angry and broke the transmission. 7600 launches are not friendly.

My POS (98 SOHC neon) 100_0649

Sent the dif pin through the top and bottom of the case.

So I bought some go-fast stuff. Most of it you can't tell is go fast stuff. I didn't take pics of the head, or the cam, or the new header. I also took out the A/C and P/S. I hadn't had a belt on it since April or so, so I wasn't using it anyway.

To this (sorry about the hacked wiring harness, I'll clean it up this winter).

My POS (98 SOHC neon) Missingparts

It was about this point I put in a Spec clutch. FUCK SPEC CLUTCHES. I put 7K miles on mine and it started slipping. Fuck all of them.

I drove it for a while, then found the trans I put in was coming apart.

January Metal:

Euro spec tails:

April transmission Metal:

So, I put in YET ANOTHER transmission and clutch. Clutch master stage 3 clutch, and an 01 neon r/t transmission with a phantom grip limited slip differential.

I drove it for a while, then ran it at the track. 15.004@93.5 (2.114) all motor, 14.08@101 (2.083) on spray (sprayed 2nd through 4th).

Did some driver mods: 14.660@93.5 all motor (2.044).

Borrowed a huge pair of slicks and sprayed first: 13.5@103 with a 2.06 60'.

Current Mod list:

Engine/Trans-
-Stock 106K mile block (and counting)
-01 Neon R/T head
-01 Neon intake manifold modded to tube intake
-Crane Cam (.355" lift, 282/272 duration)
-OBX long tube header
-Thermal Muffler with 2.5" piping
-01 Neon R/T transmission with 99 bellhousing
-Phantom Grip dif
-Clutchmaster stage 3 clutch
-Stock Axles
-Zex wet nitrous kit
-SAFC2 fuel tuner
-Crane ignition box (for two step and rev limiter)
-"Custom" catch can

Suspension/Brakes-
-Stock brakes (for now)
-95-96 Neon Sport wheels painted graphite with polished lip
-Koni struts and ??? Springs (soon to come)
-Prothane "Race" inserts
-Solid rear motor mount strut.

Things are changing big time. I sold the head, cam, and cam gear for $530, and I bought a built motor for $500. It has 12.5:1 wiseco pistons, eagle rods, it's been bored .040" over, has a .400" lift cam with 282/282 duration. It should put down 180WHP all motor, and eventually I'm going to spray it. For now, I've got to change the head gasket, timing belt, and get 30lb injectors to run E85 in it. Eventually, it's going to be fully gutted down to a steering wheel, shifter, pedals, and seat. At that point, I'll pull the tags off of it, and do a standalone.

I was just using it with a 65 shot. I tried a 90 shot, but I ended up pinging a little bit. I went another 13.5@103 but with a 2.3 60'. I would love to do boost, but I got such a good deal on the built motor that I'm just going to stick it out. When I sold my head, cam, and cam gear, I was able to buy the motor valve cover to oil pan, and still be up a few bucks. Nitrous on top of this 12.5:1 motor with a standalone computer would be pretty serious in a 2000lb car.

If I blow up this motor, I'll probably go with a stratus 2.4 motor with SRT pistons and rods, and an SRT turbo. I could do it pretty cheap, and it'll move too.

Yeah man, I was pretty impressed myself! When I was turning the shot on in 2nd gear, I was running 14.0's. I picked up a half second just by using it in first gear on slicks.

Suuure, whenever I get up there. I'll run anyone. Doesn't mean I'll win!
